Food Allergy

Talk to Us about Your Food Allergies and Diet Needs! 

We take pride in sourcing wholesome ingredients, preparing recipes accurately and providing nutritional analysis and ingredient statements through our online menus and nutrition calculator. We are all passionate about serving students. From general manager to front line servers, we work diligently to address students’ specific needs, especially those with food allergies, Celiac disease, or special diet needs.

In Brooks Dining Hall, we invite guests with food allergies to enjoy the Simple Servings and My Zone stations. Simple Servings is Sodexo's award-winning program for providing safely prepared meals that are made without the eight most commons allergens according to the FDA. Delicious and healthful, Simple Servings meals allow students with a variety of food allergies to enjoy dining on campus. Also in Brooks Dining Hall, students have access to My Zone, a food "pantry" where specialty foods and packaged products are contained. Students with celiac disease or food allergies can utilize My Zone to safely enjoy a variety of items including gluten-free bread and muffins. 

A team approach led by you, our educated consumer, is the best preparation for a safe school year free of allergic reactions. We want to meet one-on-one with all of our customers who have individual dining needs to ensure that your dining experience is safe, delicious, and social. My Zone/Simple Servings

University of Southern Maine is proud to offer MyZone, allergy-safe pantry, and Simple Servings, a allergen-safe, hot food station. 

My Zone

My ZoneMy Zone is our campus “pantry” located at Brooks Dining Hall, where food items needed by students with Celiac disease or food allergies are stored and prepared with precautions against cross-contact. This special area is free of tree nut, peanut, and gluten-containing ingredients and products. My Zone gives students the ability to be involved in their own allergen-safe meal preparation. Simple Servings

Simple ServingsSimple Servings is our allergen-safe, dining option for our customers with food allergies, gluten intolerance, or those who prefer plain and simple foods. The Simple Servings station offers food free from common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, and eggs.  All foods offered are also free from gluten-containing ingredients. Simple Servings staff members are carefully trained to avoid cross-contact with food allergens. Separate equipment, storage areas, utensils and preparation areas minimize, but do not totally eliminate, the chances of gluten and allergens in our Simple Servings foods. Simple Servings is open to anyone and is located in Brooks Dining Hall. Check out the menu for Simple Servings today on the Dining Hall webpage.
